An incomplete copper-alloy strap fitting of Iron Age to Roman date, c.200 BC - AD 200. The object comprises a semi-circular loop, broken at both ends with an integral smaller semi-circular sprue projecting into the larger loop. To the outer edge of the large loop, below the sprue the remains of another loop project, again semi-circular and broken at both ends. The metal has a mid-green patina and is in fair condition. Late Iron Age to Roman copper alloy Langton Down brooch, probably of Mackreth's (2011) Type 2.b, dating to the period c. AD 25 - 60. The wings are incomplete. They would have originally formed a cylindrical hood to house the missing spring and axis bar. The bow is divided from the spring case by a crescentic cross-moulding. The bow tapers from the head and terminates in an old break. It exhibits reeded longitudinal moulding. The lower, bow, foot and catchplate are missing. An Iron Age Gallo-Belgic gold stater of the Ambiani. Of 'Gallic War Uniface' type, c.60-50 BC. As ABC 16; VA 50-56. Measurements: 17.81mm in diameter, 2.78mm thick and 6.17g in weight. Discussion: From BERK-A92065"Known as the 'Gallic War uniface' stater these coins were struck by the Ambiani in northern France almost certainly during the Gallic War [period] (c. 60-50 BC ) and imported into Britain during the late first century BC. These gold coins are frequently found in southern Britain where they circulated in large numbers, and where some [varieties] may also have been produced."
