Rim sherd from a Middle Anglo-Saxon vessel made in Northern Maxey ware, probably Fabric B, dating from the 8th to mid 9th century. The fabric is medium hard with a profuse, crushed sea-shell filler, the sherd has a dark grey exterior and core with a mid-brown inner face. The rim is everted with a square-cut edge with some idications of a slight burnish on its outer surface. Jars of this form occured were found at Flixborough (Evans and Loveluck, Fig. 12.24, No. 154).
