Date: Medieval AD 1280-1335 Discovery: metal detecting on cultivated land. Description: Three Medieval silver pennies, two of Edward I (AD 1272-1307) and one of Edward III (AD 1327-1377). The details of the individual coins are as follows: Coin 1: Edward I long cross Class 2 (North 1014 or 1015) dating to AD 1280. Mint of York. North (1991: 28). Fragment of a medieval copper alloy shield-shaped strap end from a folding clasp dating to the period c. AD 1275 -1450. Sheet metal shield-shaped plate with a narrowed waist and rectangular front projection. A rectangular bar mount is attached to the front projection with a single rivet whcih sits flush with the surface of the mount. The shank has a roved over end and pierces a small square of sheet copper alloy, possibly from a second, missing plate. See: Egan & Pritchard, 2002, p. 116, fig. 76 B.

One sherd of unglazed earthernware. The fabric is reduced grey at the core with a patchily oxidised red exterior surface. The dense temper is pink and white quartz sand with occasional iron stone pieces and voids up to 2mm. The temper is visible at the surface indicating the surfaces were wiped. A small wheel thrown ceramic juglette likely from Iberia dating from the 17th-19th centuries in date. Description: The jug is quite small with a long body and high low angle shoulder and a narrow neck. The rim is beaded and very minorly flared, the pinching to form the spout is very subtle. The base is flat and very slightly concave. The body has an incised concentric decorative pattern likely incised on the wheel, albeit a very simple one. A circular hole pierces both plates just behind the strap bar to house the wire pin. The attachment end is held together by a copper alloy rivet with roved over ends. A group of two silver coins, in three pieces. All coins are official issues of Edward IV issued between 1465 and 1467 at the London mint. Coin 2 fell in two subsequent to finding, with a clean unpatinated break running between 4 and 10 o’clock on the obverse face; the two pieces have since been taped together. These would have originally been folded around the strap bar of the missing buckle frame. The plate exhibtits three rivet holes in a triangular arrangement, one of which retains a dome-headed rivet. Post medieval copper alloy double loop asymmetrical buckle dating to the period c. AD 1575 - 1700. Central narrowed strap bar with a D-shaped loop on one side and a trapezoidal loop on the other. The trapezoidal loop has a trefoliate outer edge and exhibits an engraved longitudinal groove. The D-shaped loop exhibits two pairs of radiating diagonal grooves. An incomplete copper-alloy Roman brooch of the Colchester Derivative double lug Type, dating to c. AD 43-100. The head is open on its back face where there are the traces of the double lug. The wings have a semi-circular cross section. On the top of the head there is a median longitudinal ridge, which thins merging into the longitudinal shallow ridge of the front face of the bow. A copper-alloy fragment of an Iron Age to Roman brooch of the Colchester or Colchester Derivative Type, dating to AD 25-100. It is the oval cross-sectioned foot, which has the almost complete catch-plate on its back face. The catch-plate is sub-triangular in profile and it has two circular perforations; the rear edge is curled to create the catch. It is very abraded and pitted.
