A heavily worn and abraded cast discoidal button of 17th century date. Description: The button is discoidal convex front and concave back. The front has an irregular incised 4 petalledflower at its centre with wide ovoid leaves framing it. The reverse has a rectangular-section shank with a slightly rounded end. Fragment of a medieval copper alloy shield-shaped strap end from a folding clasp dating to the period c. AD 1275 -1450. Sheet metal shield-shaped plate with a narrowed waist and rectangular front projection. A rectangular bar mount is attached to the front projection with a single rivet whcih sits flush with the surface of the mount. The shank has a roved over end and pierces a small square of sheet copper alloy, possibly from a second, missing plate. See: Egan & Pritchard, 2002, p. 116, fig. 76 B.

These would have originally been folded around the strap bar of the missing buckle frame. The plate exhibtits three rivet holes in a triangular arrangement, one of which retains a dome-headed rivet. Post medieval copper alloy double loop asymmetrical buckle dating to the period c. AD 1575 - 1700. Central narrowed strap bar with a D-shaped loop on one side and a trapezoidal loop on the other. The trapezoidal loop has a trefoliate outer edge and exhibits an engraved longitudinal groove. The D-shaped loop exhibits two pairs of radiating diagonal grooves.
