A cast and engraved complete Medieval copper-alloy pointed oval seal matrix. Description: The matrix consists of a flat oval die face. The die has a central incised design of a 'hand right, holding sprig of flowers with an apex of a Fleur de lis, with two curved lower leaves on each of which a rearward facing bird is perched, below which is a further bird? advancing right. A post medieval silver seal matrix dating to AD 1796-1797. The seal matrix is damaged and is missing the loop at the back for holding the matrix. The seal matrix is oval and depicts a sheep walking right. There is an incised line around the edge of the face. On the back the front plate steps inwards to an oval plate with the maker's mark around it and in the centre a raised round section which narrows and then extends transversely to created the curvilinear holding loop. Medieval copper alloy seal matrix, 17mm in length, and 20mm in diameter with a weight of 8.23grams. The matrix consists of a triangular shaped, hexagonal cross sectioned shaft which terminates with a raised rounded collar sitting below the now incomplete suspension loop. This widens to form a circular matrix which shows a fox with one foreleg raised with a chicken on its back . A medieval lead alloy seal matrix dating from about AD 1200 - 1400. It is a pointed oval shape with the remains of a pierced lug at the top. The central motif is a cross with an indistinct fanned base. There does not appear to be any line bteween the central design and the inscription which reads: + S' MATIL- POSSLEL (Seal of Matilda Posslel).
