An incomplete copper-alloy Brooch of Roman date (AD 100-200). The object is an equal-armed/ended brooch. The central panel is diamond in shape and the lower portion of the bow is composed of an elongated, diamond shape with double collard knops at the bottom of the bow, the upper portion is missing due to and old abraded break. The diamond is recessed and at its centre are two rows of longitudinally running pellets. The brooch had possibly been enamelled. The retained portion of the object consists of a complete bow and catchplate and the majority of the wings which are hollow, and C-shaped in section. The spring and pin are missing. The brooch is likely to be a Rosette brooch as there appears to be evidence of a spring wrapped round a retaining bar. The fragment comprises wings which are split along the top. Rosette brooches typically have a spring mechanism to fasten them and it may be that the back of the wings have been pressed together to form a cylinder, or possibly the spring was damaged and the wings squeezed round so that the brooch could still be used. …

An incomplete copper-alloy Langton Down style brooch of Roman date circa AD 25-60. The brooch is missing most of the spring, the pin, foot and catchplate. From the wings the bow projects in a D shape and tapers in towards a semi-circular foot. Although badly corroded, the bow is decorated with a raised central rib running longitudinally with repeating incised transverse lines.
