The fitting consists of a sub-circular plate, with an integral rivet projecting off centre from the reverse; the latter folded over. Late medieval to early post medieval copper alloy thimble dating to the period c. AD 1300 - 1550. It is formed of a single piece of sheet copper alloy, cylindrical with a domed top which now has a jagged circular aperture. The exterior is covered in a series of hand-punched circular pits. A circumferential groove runs around the mouth. Similar thimbles have been dated to the later part of the medieval period (c. Early Medieval (11th century) stirrup terminal: The copper alloy terminal is semi-cylindrical and the outer, convex face has moulded decoration whose lower terminal is slightly tapered and rounded. The decoration has a triangular protruding eyes, behind prominent ridges which are the eyes. Behind the eyes there are obliquely undulating grooves. The upper edge is broken, but not recently.
