Roman to Medieval (1st to 15th centuries) spindle whorl: A stone or ceramic spindle whorl which is sub-circular in plan and in profile is D-sectioned with the base being flat. There is a central sub-circular perforation which is 8.13mm diameter. The surface is a light cream colour with some pitting and voids. It measures 29.18mm diameter and is 17.87mm thick. It weighs 16.26g. Spindle whorls, as an artefact type, can be hard to date accurately as they remained in use for a long period of time.
