Medieval (1450 to 1550) thimble or sewing ring: A copper alloy thimble or sewing ring which is composed of a single shell. The exterior has a plain rim with rows of conical indentations. The interior is undecorated.
The surface of the thimble has an abraded matte light green-brown patina with traces of red copper corrosion.
The thimble measures 9.82mm long and 23.15mm wide. It weighs 4.66g.
Holmes (1988) in Figure 4 illustrates a similar shaped and decorated thimble which he dates to the mid-15th to mid-16th century.
