A cast, lead alloy spindle whorl dating from the Medieval to post-Medieval period, AD110-1800. The object comprises an irregular truncated bi-conical loom weight with a central perforation with an internal diameter of 8.96mm. One face is decorated with four radiating lines with pellets between, two pellets in one quadrant and a single pellet in the others. The reverse has a more random design of raised lines and pellets. A late Medieval lead alloy late Plantagenet issue token, dating AD 1425-1490. Mitchiner & Skinner (1984:142/Pl. 1; no. 20) illustrate a token which bears a similar design. The token is damaged missing the lower section from the 8-5 o'clock position. Obverse: Shield with opposing double lined crescents with motif below, central nipple. A Medieval bag or flask shaped lead-alloy pilgrim's ampulla, AD.1300-1500. The vessel has a rectangular neck section with integrally cast suspension loops, one of which is missing, the other folded over. The opening at the top of the neck has been pinched shut. Below the neck, the vessel has an expanding waist that curves out to form the main circular section of the vessel. Where the missing handle would have been attached, there is a tear in the neck - possibly for the removal of the contents. The object measures 48.78mm in length, 28.79mm wide and weighs 31.7g.
