A cast copper-alloy watch winder.
Description: An oval cast loop decorated with a ribbed pattern around its circumference and with two opposed lugs. The upper, smaller lug would formerly have attached to a fob, the other, longer lug is a hollow key stem to engage with a watch mechanism. Internally the stem is square in section The winder is gilded over most of its surface.
Measurements: Length: 29.61mm: Width of loop: 11.17mm: Thickness of loop: 1.61mm: Weight: 0.97gms.
Discussion: Watches requiring such winding keys date from circa AD1850-1900.
