Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
An early Medieval lead-filled copper alloy pan weight, probably dating to c. AD 950-1150. The weight consists of a lead-filled copper alloy sheath; it is circular in plan, with either face decorated with an openwork saltire of two opposing arches. The arches are further elaborated with an incised line following the arc, with the two lines joined at the centre by two further incised transverse lines, creating a central sub-square field, possibly intended as a rudimentary union knot. An incomplete late early-medieval (1000-1100) copper-alloy zoomorphic stirrup strap mount with a worn and incomplete loop at the apex. It retains two corroded iron rivets in the flange. The stirrup is a Williams Class A, Type 1 and is sub-pentagonal in shape, being slightly convex at the front. This face is worn but grooved decoration can still be seen. Two sets of parallel lines run diagonally across the face from a central point to the edge of the mount, forming a V-shape. The point of the lower V is crossed by a transverse groove which runs in parallel to the rivets below at a dist…

An Early-Medieval (Anglo-Saxon) damaged and almost complete gold mount or cover for a boss (c. 600-c. 700). Treasure case no. 2018 T335. The object is dented at the top and is made from sheet gold and gold wire. It is circular in plan, domed at the front and hollow on the underside. There is a sub-circular hole through its top, possibly the means by which it was originally attached to another object, as it seems too small to accommodate a setting. There is an incomplete separate strand of beaded filigree just above the base of the mount. The base is flat. This boss is very typic…

An incomplete cast copper-alloy fragment originating from a strap end probably belonging to Thomas' type A4-5, dating to the Early Medieval period- c. 750-900 AD. Only the terminal end survives, the rest of the object apparently missing in a neat truncation. The former is zoomorphic, taking the form of a bat-like animal with a tapered snout, bulging ears and large lenticular ears-above which are a pair of scrolled mouldings presumably marking the lower border of the central cells (now missing). The reverse of the strap-end is stepped, its upper edge demonstrating a ferrous corrosion …
