An incomplete base silver contemporary copy of a Roman denarius of Julia Soaemias (AD 218-222), dating to the period AD 218-222 (Reece Period 10). VENVS CAELESTIS type, depicting Venus seated left, holding a sceptre and an apple, with a child at her feet. Mint of Rome. RIC IV.2, p. 48, cf. no. 243.
The coin has broken between 12 and 6 o'clock on the obverse. It is covered in patches of green and orange corrosion product, suggesting that the coin was made from an alloy of copper alloy and iron.
Diameter: 17.6mm; Thickness: 1.7mm; Weight: 1.40g.
