The lower half is missing a section, extending above the midrib. The weight is undecorated. The metal is a light cream in colour with a pitted patina. An elongated hexagonal plate serving as a handle, with a cylindrical winding key projecting from one short side, and a collared waisted lug retaining the stub of a freely moving loop opposite. Mortar and plaster building material. A thick [33mm] chunk of mortar, now of grey buff colour with abundant rounded flecks of black material to length 2mm [most smaller]. The finder kindly opines this to be stone whereas this reporter would rather see it as a thick render. The structure is open with voids between constituents and a crystalline appearance under low magnification; similar-looking black inclusions appear in pottery fabrics attributed to the Coal Measures of southern Yorkshire.
