Object type: FLAKE
Broad period: MESOLITHIC
County: Buckinghamshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A complete flint core rejuvenation flake from the Mesolithic period, dating from 9000-4300 BC. The flint is a long triangular shape. On the dorsal face there are conchoidal ripple marks running up the flint. These are weak suggesting that a soft hammer was used. On the proximal end is a small striking platform. There is a small bulb of percussion on the ventral face. The retouch is short, scaled and abrupt along one edge of the distal end. The flint is a pale grey and brown colour, with patches of white across the surface. The flint measures 38.1mm in length, 15.9mm in width, 6.5mm…

A tertiary flint blade flake produced during the process of lithic reduction. The flake is sub-rectangular with a triangular cross-section. The flint is semi-opaque and off-white in colour with a low-gloss patina. The dorsal face shows removal scars of long parallel blade flakes. The ventral face is smooth and has no apparent bulb of percussion indicating probable use of a soft hammer. Date: Early Neolithic - 4000 BC to 3300 BC. Dimensions: 36.7mm x 19.03mm x 6.48mm. A tertiary waste flint blade flake produced during the process of lithic reduction. The flake is sub-rectangular with a triangular cross-section, a small amount of cortex remains to the right side margin of the dorsal face. The flint is semi-trancslucent and creamy light brown with a low-gloss patina, approximately 60% of the dorsal face surface is now covered in a smooth off-white re-cortification, the distal end has an area of thicker white re-cortification. The dorsal face shows removal scars of long parallel blade flakes. The ventral face has a fairly prominent bulb of percussion in…
