Copper alloy Colchester derivative headstud type enamelled Roman brooch. Hollow D-shaped section wings with vestigal hinged pin situated in a central slot on the curved underside. Sub rectangular bow tapering to a raised conical sub-circular foot knop. Vestiges of the broken catchplate extend from halfway along the underside of the bow to the foot. Where the bow begins to rise above the wings is the lower remnant of a looped headstud, suggested by Mackreth (type 2.b3) to be the devolved remnant of a dog, reduced to just it's tail.
