Copper alloy Colchester derivative headstud type enamelled Roman brooch. Hollow D-shaped section wings with vestigal hinged pin situated in a central slot on the curved underside. Sub rectangular bow tapering to a raised conical sub-circular foot knop. Vestiges of the broken catchplate extend from halfway along the underside of the bow to the foot. Where the bow begins to rise above the wings is the lower remnant of a looped headstud, suggested by Mackreth (type 2.b3) to be the devolved remnant of a dog, reduced to just it's tail. A Roman lead ingot, or "pig" probably dating to the period c. AD 150-402. The ingot is rectangular in plan and trapezoidal in cross-section with rounded corners and no inscription visible on the top. The top has a raised rim around a recessed rectangular panel. The rim is also trapezoid in shape with bevelled inner and outer faces. The rim varys between 20.4 and 21mm wide on one long side 23.4 and 23.3 on other. The panel is recessed 1.8mm and 2.5mm at the ends deepening to 6.1mm in the centre.
