A complete copper alloy possible toggle or dress fastener dating from the post-Medieval period (circa 1600-1800 AD). This type of artefact was previously identified by Ralph Jackson (2010) and Sally Worrell (2008) as a Late Iron Age or early Roman cosmetic pestle, dating circa 75-300 AD. Some recorders suggest that at least some of these are in fact clothing fasteners; toggles similar to those on a duffle coat (see SOM-5CC893; FAKL-5A38B6). A Roman copper alloy fragment, likely a mount. The object is broken on one side but intact on the other. The main body appears to be a rectangle with a break edge and red enamel on the surface. The rectangular segment is connected to a triangular segment with green enamel and two bulges on the opposite two sides of the traingle, possibly as a Roman phallic design. The reverse side has an integral rivet opposite to the triangular section, just above the shoulder.

A fragment of a Medieval silver-gilt iconographic finger-ring (1400-1500). Treasure case no. 2018 T326. This fragment is a portion of bezel and hoop. The bezel and hoop are keeled (faceted) on the outer face. On the bezel, one facet has cross hatching and the other facet has a diagonal plain panel and a stylised frond. A double-tournois of Louis XIII of France, dated 1643 and probably minted in Tours based on E mint mark. Louis is particularly well known for exiling his mother, Marie de Medici, who up until 1617 was acting as his regent. The coin appears to have been struck, possibly in the soil by a plough blade, as there is a large gash above the bust of the king. Obverse:- Laureate bust of Louis XIII, facing left, legend around 'LV XIII DE [FR] ET NA REX' Reverse:- Three fleur de lis, arranged in a V pattern, date 1643 in legend. A very worn and incomplete 'dolphin' jetton possibly of Mitchiner (1988) type 482. The dolphin was an allusion to the Dauphine of Vennois (Mitchener 1988, p 182) and has a strong relationship to the french crown through Charles V and his son, the later Charles VI.
