Object type: UNIDENTIFIED OBJECT
Broad period: MEDIEVAL
County: East Riding of Yorkshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
An unidentified lead object, possibly a mould, roughly rectangular in shape and with a central suken area. The design is situated in a sunken circle, part of which has been destroyed by damage to the main lead slab. At the centre is a curving serpent-like design with a tassel of four parts as a tail and an S shaped body, leading to a possible head. This may only be half of a two-part mould, maybe for the creation of tokens or coin-like objects. There is also the possibility this was used for impressing a design into butter.
