A complete copper alloy Key (casket) of Post-Medieval date (AD 1500-1600). The object has an openwork, kidney shaped bow with two internal projection and triple collard ovate shank which projects beyond the bit. The bit is flat and rectangular. The key is in relatively good condition with a grey green patination. Measurements: Length: 31.69mm, Width: 15.64mm, Thickness: 3.79mm and a Weight of: 3.57g A number of similar exmples are shown in Brian Read's Metal Artefacts of Antiquity 2001 as well as recorded on this database.

A complete but worn and abraded flat lead non-heraldic personal seal matrix of Medieval date c.AD 1200-1350. Description: The matrix is flat and circular in plan and with an incomplete suspension loop at the top of the reverse side. The front has an incised design featuring a large central octofoil (eight pettaled flower) surrounded by a retrograde (backwards inscription) which would have appeared the right way round when used. An incomplete post medieval cast tombac (copper alloy) button. The button is domed with a convex front, the reverse is concave and the separate back is missing. The front is decorated with a crudely engraved stylised flower consisting of a seven pointed inner ring of sepals within a 13mm diameter circle, which is in turn contained within a double incised line forming petals, the whole disposed around a central crosshatched 4mm dia. circle. A conical lead weight, with the remains of an embedded iron loop at the apex, of probable medieval date. The object has a uniform white patination and weighs 92.8g. It stands 28.7mm high with a diameter of 27mm at the base. The underside has a central concavity which appears to have been enlarged by scraping after it was cast. This object could have been used as a standing weight, or with a steelyard balance, and probably represents a quarter-pound under the Tower system, which would date it to the mid to late medieval period, c1100 - 1500.
