An incomplete, copper alloy, Early Medieval, zoomorphic, strap end, AD.800-1100. The object is formed of three sections, the uppermost being the attachment point, pierced by a single rivet hole. This is damaged and so only half of the rivet hole remains, upon either side of which are two lobes. This section of the piece tapers down until it meets a transverse double collar. Below this double collar is the midsection of the piece, this is undecorated, though seems to have two faint ridges running down either side. An early Roman copper alloy Hod Hill brooch. The brooch has a wide and narrow headplate with a rolled over top containing the remains of an iron pin. A worn copper alloy nummus of the House of Constantine, AD333-335, RIC vii, 554, Reece period 17. The obverse shows a laureate-helmeted and mantled bust, facing left, with a spear or sceptre over the right shoulder. The remaining inscription reads CONSTAN [TINOPOLIS] .The reverse shows Victory standing on a prow, holding a long spear or sceptre and resting her left hand on a shield. There is no visible inscription. It measures 16.03mm, is 1.49mm thick and weighs 2.0g. These coins were minted to celebrate the capture of Byzantium (later Constantinople).
