Fragment of an Early Medieval copper brazed iron bell. The fragment comprises part of the crown and shoulder of the bell, and also part of the handle. The crown appears to have been oval in plan. An iron shank passes theough the crown near the shoulder and rises above to the break. The shoulder flares outwards. The item is corroded, but a small patch of copper alloy is visible which suggests that this bells was copper brazed. Fragment of an Early Medieval copper brazed iron bell. The fragment comprises one shoulder and part of the crown and handle. The crown appears to have been oval in sub-rectangular in plan. The remains of an iron shank can be seen inside the bell. The shoulder flares outwards as it moves down the bell. The shoulder has a triangular fold.
XRF analysis has not been undertaken on this example, the metal detectorist noted that the object gives a strong non-ferrous reading on his metal detector.
