A fragment of a copper-alloy Sterling bust jetton issued under Edward II dating to the period AD 1310 - 1314. Long cross with pellets in angles within border of pellets. Mint of London. Class 11.
Similar jettons can be seen in Mitchiner, p.100, no's.118-120.
The basic design of the jetton is based on the sterling pennies introduced by Edward I in 1279 though bear decorative borders rather than the legends typically seen on coins of the period.
