A Roman T-shaped brooch. The brooch consists of the cylindrical wings, an arched bow, and part of the catch plate. The wings have a notch in the centre to accommodate the hinge pin which is missing. A complete copper alloy button and loop fastener of Wild (1970) Class III dating to the Roman period (AD 50 - AD 200). The head of the fastener is teardrop shaped, with a central circular boss within a circumferential recess. The surrounding moulding is raised and drawn out into a point. The shank extends straight down from the reverse of the head, and bends at 90 degrees before forming a triangular attachment loop. An incomplete cast copper alloy Roman brooch, a rosette 'lion' (LĂ©ontomorphe) brooch probably a local copy of a continental type, (Mackreth type LEO 9.a). The brooch consists of a circular sheet metal plate with a lower extent formed as a fantail ('rosette' shaped) and with surface traces of a further separate circular element lost from the top part of the plate, which would have been secured through the hole inthe centre of the head.
