A possible incomplete Post Medieval cloth seal dating from about AD 1500 - 1700. It could be one disc of a rivet type seal of two or four discs that was not fastened by putting the integral rivet through the hole on the opposing disc successfully. It has a stamp impression on one face, but the circular sectioned integral rivet protruding from the other has not been squashed flat, though it does possibly have traces of a stamped design on it, perhaps an A or V. An incomplete lead alloy button, probably of late Medieval dating (about AD 1300 - 1500).
The head of the button is circular, and slightly domed, with a flat back. The front has a central cross design in relief, created by four chevron shaped recesses. The arms of the cross terminate with a pellet, with further pellets round the outer edge in the angle of each chevron. There is also a pellet in the centre. The pellets are all very worn. On half of the button, the raised cross appears to be a separate piece of lead from the backplate, though this is not evident on the undamaged side…
