A cast lead alloy trade weight dating from the Medieval period, about AD 1300 - 1500. It is thick, flat and shield shaped (flat top with curved sides meeting at a point at the base). The upper surface is stepped, with the central area much thicker than the edge. The centre may once have been decorated but the design is no longer legible. There is a large (5.3mm diameter), circular perforation in the centre of the upper edge of the shield. A complete lead-alloy weight of possible Roman to Post-Medieval date, c.AD 43 - 1700. The weight is cylindrical in form, and narrows towards each terminal. An irregular longitudinal overlap of metal has been crudely smoothed suggesting the object was constructed from a single sheet rolled over onto itself. A possibly complete lead-alloy weight or gaming piece of possible Early-Medieval date, c.AD 850 - 1050. The object is plano-convex with a large central depression in the flat face. The upper domed surface displays a shiny grey patina while the sides and base are a light creamy brown colour. The object is 23.6mm in diameter, 14.8mm tall, the depression is 8.1mm in diameter and 6.1mm deep. It weighs 41.9g. Similar objects have been recorded on the PAS database. A oblong button-like object of lead or lead-alloy, as evidenced by the powdery off-white coating on the objects surface. The token is bifacial, with one side depicting a large capital 'N' in retrograde (a common feature of these objects), surrounded by four annulets. A complete cast lead-alloy groat sized Boy Bishop token of Rigold's type X- uninscribed Bury series, dating c. 1470-1539. Obverse: crude mitre with crozier behind, all within a ribbon like 'pseudo-legend'. Reverse: long cross quartering token, three pellets in each angle, pseudo-legend of curvilinear motifs. C.f Rigold 1978, plate XI, fig. k. The token has been pierced for suspension directly below the mitre, inferring it may have been converted into a personal amulet or devotional piece.
