Lead weight. Cast irregularly cuboid object with an originally round aperture of estimated diameter c.7mm; patinated and squashed. This resembles the massy weights used with fishing lines by beach anglers and modern sea fishermen, albeit more angular in form, though the surface condition indicates an object of some age. Suggested date: Post-Medieval, 1600-1900 Length: 23mm, Width: 18.9mm, Thickness: 16.9mm, Weight: 35.44gms

A complete lead-alloy weight of possible Roman to Post-Medieval date, c.AD 43 - 1700. The weight is cylindrical in form, and narrows towards each terminal. An irregular longitudinal overlap of metal has been crudely smoothed suggesting the object was constructed from a single sheet rolled over onto itself. The metal has a light white/grey patina and is worn. The weight is 34.5mm long, 15.5mm in widest diameter and weighs 42.2g. According to Helen Geake, 'Perforated weights of other shapes (e.g. long hollow cylinders, or thin rods with a perforation at one end) are very imperfectly un…

A cast lead alloy trade weight dating from the Medieval period, about AD 1300 - 1500. It is thick, flat and shield shaped (flat top with curved sides meeting at a point at the base). The upper surface is stepped, with the central area much thicker than the edge. The centre may once have been decorated but the design is no longer legible. There is a large (5.3mm diameter), circular perforation in the centre of the upper edge of the shield. The lower border is decorated with indistinct beading, perhaps once representing a ropework design. The underside is flat and undecorated. The weight…
