Copper alloy brooch. Cast Colchester derivative brooch, Mackreth 2011, type CD RH 2.g. Curved wings open behind bear incised decoration: a billeted ring around the end of each wing, and a diagonal pair of lines with billeting between them on the display side of each wing. A patch of solder lies in the gutter of the wings, more on one side. They are clasped by a bow of rounded section with a central ridge and a groove to either side of it, the three elements diverging towards the crest. An incomplete lead alloy button, probably of late Medieval dating (about AD 1300 - 1500) and with evidence of repair. The head of the button is circular, and slightly domed, with a flat back. The front has a central cross design in relief, created by four chevron shaped recesses. The arms of the cross terminate with a pellet, with further pellets round the outer edge in the angle of each chevron. The pellets are all very worn.
