Object type: VESSEL
Broad period: MEDIEVAL
County: North Lincolnshire

Copper alloy possible vessel fragment. Possibly a foot from a metal vessel, or a miscast attempt to make one. The doubt is introduced by the hollow back of the object, which may leave the possibility that this is from the end of a completely different class of deliberately hollow cast object. As a vessel foot, the object would be flat-based with two convex surfaces meeting at a sharply defined keel or aris. Dark patches may be the relicts of sooting from use on a hearth. Suggested date: Medieval, 1200-1500. Height: 19.6mm, Width: 27.7mm, Thickness: 27mm, Weight: 21.88gms

A copper-alloy Post-Medieval symmetrical flat mount with two integral pointed rivets or lugs. This artefact weighs 4.48g has a length of 36.4mm and maximum width of 10.0mm. The body of the mount is sub-rectangular and has a thickness of 1.9mm. The long edges undulate with four convex and three concave curves per side. Copper alloy possible vessel fragment. An incomplete pewter button, badge or mount probably of 15th to 16th century AD. The remains of this artefact weighs 2.14g. The body of the object is circular with a diameter of 15.9mm and rectangular cross-section. The edges have slight damage and this results in a rough uneven rim. The body has a thickness of 2.3mm at the rim. This artefact was cast, the evidence of which is seen as a casting seam across the centre of the reverse surface of the object's body. At the centre of the reverse surface the worn remains of a button loop-shank, pin or integral rivet are present. Thi…

An extremely worn silver coin. The coin weighs 1.9g, has a diameter of 19.4mm and thickness of 0.6mm. The thinness, look and feel of this coin would suggest a hammered rather than milled coin. No legend is even slightly visible on either the obverse or reverse. One side of the flan seems to show the ends of a laureate tie, reverse head profile, forehead and upper nose profile of a head or bust right. It is important to note that the end of the ribbon tie almost touched the edge (or current edge) of the flan, thus allowing no space for a legend. The other side of the flan is worn…
