A fragment of Roman amphora handle from an amphora dating from the second century. The handle is probably from Dressel 20 amphora which would have been large and globular with cylindrical handles and a prominent beaded or angular rim. The amphora would have probably contained olive oil and was produced in the Baetica region of Spain. The fabric is light pink throughout.

The base is probably from Dressel 20 amphora which would have been large and globular with cylindrical handles and a prominent beaded or angular rim. The amphora would have probably contained olive oil and was produced in the Baetica region of Spain.The fabric is light pink throughout. The white concretion is Thames 'race' which has adhered to the exterior of the amphora.
