Incomplete cover plate of the box mounted at the apex of a Post-medieval copper alloy stirrup in the form of a scallop shell or crown. The edges at the side are missing, having been broken off with the bar which would have formed the rear of the box. The moulded plate is formed of six incised radiating oblique lines, above a transvere border. In the centre of the convex upper edge, there is a rectangular knop, 8 mm wide and protruding 6 mm from the edge. This makes the plate look like a crown with a mounted element on top. A complete (fragmentary) copper alloy Stirrup of Medieval to Post-Medieval date (AD 1450-1550). The stirrup is sub-rectangular in plan with slightly incurving sides. The sides are broad (mm at their base) and are decorated with integral fan-like ribbing which extends about half way up the side. At its apex the stirrup narrows slightly. The upper end of the object is sub-ovate and is a scallop style box with three radiating incised lines to represent the undulations of a shell. To the back of the scallop is a rectangular sectioned aperture to allow a stirrup leather to pass through. Th…
