Description: Circular silver button with raised decoration. Four part-circles are arranged around the edge, creating a cross shape between them. In the centre of each is a raised dot. The centre of the button also has a small equal-armed cross comprising four applied pellets. The back has a small loop for attachment.

A post-medieval (1500-1600) copper-alloy button with integral shank. The head is solid and decorated with a relief design of a central pellet and what Read (2005, no. 112) calls an 'eight-bladed impeller', i.e. eight radiating ridges turning into anti-clockwise scrolls towards the edge of the button.
The head measures 14.4mm in diameter. The object weighs 4.77g.

The front bears a pair of crossed cannon barrels below a grenade or shell issuing flames, denoting an artillery unit, possibly of Volunteers. The back bears stamped maker's details, now indistinct. An incomplete early post-medieval (1500-1700) lead alloy button (probably), missing its integral loop and one of four decorative knops. The button is domed to the front and concave to the reverse, with a prominent casting flash from the centre of which extends the incomplete stem. All breaks are old.
