An incomplete copper-alloy Early Medieval (Anglo-Saxon) small-long brooch. The head comprises a central rectangular plate with three sides extended in three flat semi-circular knops; one of the knops is heavily damaged. The fourth side extends in the arched bow, which has a D-shaped cross section and tapers towards the break. The bow is thicker in the middle. The front of the headplate is decorated with a central ring-and-dot, while the bow has in its front a very abraded longitudinal groove. The head has the upper edge folded forward to create the housing for the iron axis-bar still in situ; below, a flat and trapezoidal in plan part precedes the bow. An incomplete copper-alloy Roman brooch of the Colchester Derivative hinged Type, dating to c. AD 43-120. The wings are cylindrical and still have the copper-alloy axis-bar to which the pin was hinged. The surviving pin consists of a very small fragment (2.11 mm long) projecting from the longitudinal slot on the back face of the wings. The bow is slightly curved in profile and has a D-shaped cross section tapering towards the break. The brooch is heavily dotted and abraded.
