Silver penny of Alexander III of Scotland (r.1249-86 AD). Second coinage, class Mc2 (Spink S5055) dating to 1280-92 AD. Obverse: Crowned, sceptred bust left. Legend: +ALEXANDER DEI GRA. Reverse: solid long cross with mullets in angles. Three angles have six-pointed pierced mullets; upper left quarter has five-pointed pierced mullet or spur-rowel, therefore a 23-pointed reverse. Legend REX/SCO/TOR/VM+ (cross pattee).. Ref: Spink 2015, pg19. 19mm, 1.24g.
