Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Two pieces of flint debitage exhibiting limited retouch, probably of Neolithic date, c. 4,000-2,400 BC. 1. Incomplete tertiary flake of dark grey-brown flint, missing the proximal end. Long, low angle, scalar retouch present at the distal end of the ventral face, with a notch worked into the right edge of the dorsal face at the surviving proximal end. Potentially also some short, scalar, abrupt retouch on the left edge of the dorsal face. The surviving removal scars appear to have been struck from the same direction. Dimensions: length 31.7mm; width 20.7mm; thickness 5.1mm; weight …

County: Devon
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Two flint scrapers of probable Neolithic date, c. 4,000-2,400 BC. Both probably of pebble flint. 1. An incomplete primary flake of pale beige-grey flint, with a natural break on the right side of the dorsal face. Probably struck directly through the cortex. Short, abrupt, sub-parallel retouch is exhibited at the distal end of the dorsal face. Dimensions: length 30.2mm; width 27.3mm; thickness 10.0mm; weight 11.21g. 2. An incomplete secondary flake of pale grey flint, mottled with pale inclusions, with a natural break on the left side of the dorsal face. Probably struck directly …

County: Devon
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A flinely knapped flint scraper of probable Neolithic date, c. 4,000-2,400BC. A sub-rectangular blade-like flake of mottled dark grey flint, plano-convex in cross section. A striking platform survives at the proximal end with a diffuse bulb of percussion and bulbar scar. The dorsal face exhibits covering, semi-abrupt, sub-parallel/scalar retouch with a blunted distal end. The ventral face is unworked. Dimensons: length: 36.4mm; width 20.0mm; thickness 7.7mm; weight 6.34g. Part of a small assemblage of flint all recovered from the same field; comprising of DEV-E1C90D, DEV-E1CE6E,…

Object type: CORE
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Devon
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A sub-connical flint core, of probable Neolithic date, c. 4,000-2,400BC. Of a mottled dark grey-brown flint with pale inclusions. Sub-Hexagonal in cross-section and tapering to a point, with neat, blade-like removals from around the perimeter of the core and with abrasion around the edge of the striking platform suggesting platform preparation. Dimensions: length 31.4mm; width 27.6mm; thickness 18.8mm; weight 16.33g. Part of a small assemblage of flint all recovered from the same field; comprising of DEV-E1C90D, DEV-E1CE6E, DEV-E1CF22, DEV-E1D34D and DEV-109C25. DEV-E1C90D an…

Object type: SCRAPER (TOOL)
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Devon
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Three flint scrapers of probable Neolithic or Bronze Age date, c. 4,000-1,600 BC. 1. Incomplete tertiary flake of dark brown-grey flint speckled with pale inclusions and with iron staining on removal scar ridges. Proximal end lost to a natural break, with long, abrupt, sub-parallel retouch at the distal end, becoming increasingly short, scalar and semi-abrupt along the right edge of the dorsal face. The ventral face is unworked. Dimensions: length 33.6mm; width 24.7mm; thickness 9.2mm; weight 8.82g. 2. Secondary flake of mottled pale grey flint, with cortex surviving on the left…

Object type: RETOUCHED FLAKE
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Devon
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A retouched flint flake of uncertain prehistoric date, c. 11,000-1,600BC. An incomplete tertiary flake of brown-grey flint, missing its proximal end and worked to a point at the distal end. The flake exhibits two sub-parallel removals on its dorsal face, although both are truncated and it is unclear whether they were blade- or flake-like. Th flake exhibits short, abrupt, scalar retouch along its left edge and semi-abrupt along the right; the ventral face is unworked. Dimensions: length 45.5mm; width 21.1mm; thickness 4.2mm; weight 3.42g. Part of a small assemblage of flint recov…

A small flint scraper of uncertain prehistoric date, c. 11,000-1,600BC. A secondary flake of slightly translucent dark grey-brown flint, with cortex covering c. 80% of the dorsal face. The ventral face exhibits a pronounced bulb of percussion and ripple marks, with short, semi-abrupt, scalar retouch around the perimeter of the flake. Dimensions: length 18.8mm; width 20.8mm; thickness 8.1mm; weight 2.77g. Part of a small assemblage of flint recovered from the same field, comprising of records: DEV-E02FE3, DEV-E02E03 and DEV-E028C4. The flints exhibit relatively neat sub-parallel …

Object type: DEBITAGE
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Devon
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A flake of flint debitage, of uncertain prehistoric date, c. 11,000-1,600BC. A secondary flake of slightly translucent dark grey-brown flint, with c. 25% of the dorsal face covered by a sandy, beige cortex, surviving at the proximal and distal ends. A relatively diffuse bulb of percussion is present at the proximal end, with bulbar scar, and surviving striking patform. The negative removal scars on the dorsal face are sub-parallel, but irregular in size, with no clear indication of further striking platforms being used. There is no evidence of retouch. Dimensions: length 39.5mm; wi…

A small flint scraper of probable Late Neolithic date, c. 3,300-2,400BC. Worked from a tertiary flake of dark grey-brown flint speckled with pale inclusions. The ventral face exhibits a diffuse bulb of percussion with bulbar scar. One of two negative removal scars on the dorsal face appears to have been struck from a different striking platform to the overall flake. The distal end exhibits short, scalar, semi-abrupt retouch. Dimensions: length 15.9mm; width 16.5mm; thickness 6.1mm; weight 1.51g. Part of a small assemblage of flint found in the same area, containing an incomplet…
