Fragment of the front part of a medieval gilt copper alloy rectangular buckle plate, broken at both ends. The face is decorated with a lion passant in relief surrounded by fine punched impressions and a broad undecorated border. Related to a common type, e.g. Egan and Pritchard 1991, 111-2, fig. 72 no. 500. Many similar similar plates, showing a lion passant, either guardant or reguardant, are known, e.g. from Lakenheath, Suffolk (SF-2EBEB3) and Stapleton, North Yorks (SWYOR-524CC3, with references to others by the PAS). Extant length 15.5mm. Width 16mm. 13th century.

Copper alloy buckle. Cast single looped buckle frame with a pointed and grooved lip and a narrowed and offset strap bar. A rectangular slotted plate with concave inner ends is looped around the frame and a cast pin with stepped base protrudes through the slot. A rivet of burred head diameter 2.3mm and length 3.2mm passes through the inner ends of the plate, possibly preserving fibrous traces of textile. Suggested date: Late Medieval, 1350-1450. Length: 27.5mm, Height: 20.6mm, Thickness: 3.1mm, Weight: 4.14gms

An incomplete cast copper-alloy annular buckle dating to the later Medieval or early Post-Medieval period, c. 1350-1650. The pin is missing, but otherwise the object survives intact. It is circular in plan and double looped, with a central strap bar. The underside of the buckle is flattened, while its upper surface is somewhat angled and demonstrates signs of bevelling. Preserved in fair condition with an uneven greenish patina, it measures 22.52mm in diameter, 3.15mm thick at the midpoint of the frame and weighs 2.95g. Incomplete post-medieval copper alloy double-looped buckle frame, just over half extant, oval loop, bent narrowed central bar, pin missing. Surviving edge decorated with notches and slight traces of a rosette in a similar manner to Whitehead 2003, no. 409. Lobes or swellings at the ends of the bar are slight. Extant length 34mm. An incomplete copper-alloy buckle plate of medieval date, c.AD 1100 - 1300. The plate comprises two remaining arms (a third having been lost to a worn break), joined along one edge by a strip of metal which folds over to the reverse, forming a backplate. A large slot for the pin is present. The front plate is the shape of the letter M with zoomorphic decoration in the form of a bird. An incomplete copper-alloy buckle of Post-Medieval date, c. AD 1500 - 1650. The buckle is a double-looped, D-shaped oval with a square sectioned strap bar. The pin no longer remains although there is evidence of an iron pin in the form of a patch of corrosion at one end of the strap bar. The reverse is flat and undecorated. The metal has a dark brown/green patina and is worn. The length is 20mm, the width is 19mm and the weight 1.47g.

Extant length (unbent) 33.5mm. Extant width 21mm. Weighs 8.81g. 6th century.
