Lead weight. Cast rectangular weight; patinated. The mass may show this to represent four units of 4.07gms, as used in Viking Age Denmark for silver bullion transactions. Similarly simple forms of weight respecting this system have been identified as of early medieval date at Cottam, East Riding of Yorkshire. Numerous examples are found elsewhere in Danelaw contexts, though their recognition is erratic. Suggested date: Early Medieval, 850-950. The use of initials on signets became fashionable in Elizabethan times, though the more modern looking letter style here is perhaps more likely Jacobean in date. Abraded.
