A fragment of a Roman cast copper alloy brooch, probably Hod Hill type, dating to 1st century AD. The item consists of the upper part of the bow . It is 24.50mm in length, 8.61mm in width and weighs 1.85g. The bow is a flattish D in section, with an early break where the bow flares outwards towards the rolled cylindrical head of this type of brooch. Just a little of this remains. Below this feature is a transverse collar and the main part of the bow is decorated with three parallel longitudinal ridges . An incomplete copper alloy Roman zoomorphic plate brooch, dating to c. 100-199 AD. The brooch is in the form of a bird, possibly a duck. The brooch is sub-ovoid shaped, with the tail end of the bird narrower than the body. The edge of the plate in worn and irregular, and has a notch from damage. The plate is domed, and decorated with recessed cells. Along the centre is a a border of lozenge shaped cells, there were probably eight in the original line. Circumstances: Found whilst searching with a metal detector. Description: Medieval gold annular brooch. The frame is flat on the reverse and bevelled on the front. It exhibits a constriction for the pin and projecting from one side of the frame is a pair of clasped hands. The hands have been made separately and sit in a small notch on the outside of the frame.
