Roman copper alloy lock pin dating to the period c. AD 43 - 409. The circular head is 'spindle-shaped' and tapers into a tapering circular-sectioned shank.
Cf. Crummy 1983, 124, nos. 4142-3. These are often identified as local pins from a locking mechanism, but may have had other functions such as decorative fittings or furniture handles.
