Object type: GAMING PIECE
Broad period: UNKNOWN
County: Rotherham
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A complete inscribed possibly graphite object, possibly a gaming piece of an uncertain date. The object is circular with a flat top and bottom. Its top is inscribed with VIII set within two border striations. The sides of the object also contain inscribed lines though it is difficult to determine whether they are deliberate or the result of damage. If deliberate the inscription is indiscernible.

Object type: CORE
Broad period: UNKNOWN
County: Leicestershire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
Prehistoric core, a worked nodule of grey flint, with some original cortex remaining. The nodule is irregularly shaped and has possibly been worked from different angles at widely spaced intervals, as it has partially recorticated. Possibly Mesolithic in date, and perhaps reworked in the Neolithic, or possibly the Bronze age.
Maximum length 34.6mm, width 33.8mm, thickness 19.3mm; mass 15.4g.

Object type: WHETSTONE
Broad period: UNKNOWN
County: Lincolnshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A fragment of whetstone of unknown date.
Description: The object is made from a fine-grained, quartz-rich sandstone, is sub-rectangular in section and trapezoidal in plan, broken across both ends. There are several lines scored across one surface, typical of those found on many whetstones and part of the sharpening action.
Measurements: Length78.51mm, width 48.29mm, thickness 23.89mm, weight 121g
Discussion: Dating of whetstones is difficult as they were used from the later Iron Age to modern times. The location and associated finds suggest an early-medieval to early post-m…
