A garnet gemstone measuring 6 mm by 4.2 mm by 1.9 mm. Given the comment from Kieran McCarthy of Wartski (see below), it is highly likely this is the missing setting for finger-ring HAMP-6C5109 / 2017 T761 (pictured). With grateful thanks to Kieran McCarthy of Wartski (www.wartski.com) for bringing the gemstone to our attention and for providing the image and information about the garnet. McCarthy comments 'The garnet .... fits the bezel perfectly. The hollow bezels of this type of ring were packed with a material that pushed the stone upwards. Over time in the ground this substance…

An incomplete medieval soldino of Doge Michael (Michele) Steno (1400-1413), mint of Venice. The flan is jagged and broken between 4 and 7 o'clock. The silver soldino of Venice was known as the galyhalpens (galley-halfpence) as it was brought by the annual Venetian trading fleets. The soldino was about the size of English halfpennies and was popular because of a contemporary lack of small change; soldini in fact occur as English finds more often than proper halfpennies of the period.
