Incomplete Roman copper alloy Colchester Derivative Harlow brooch of Mackreth's (2011) Type CD Ha 2 dating to the period c. AD 55 - 150. The C-shaped wings have a pierced double lug to house the axis bar and chord. A longitudinal groove runs down the centre of the bow and exhibts a series of cross-cuts. It terminates in a worn break. A lead cloth or bale seal dating from the Post-medieval period. The seal is 'butterfly' or 'bow-tie' shaped in plan, 32 mm in length, 24.5 mm in width, 3 mm in thickness and weighing 25.6 g, with a folded, tapered connecting strip attached at the centre, 40 mm long, 5 mm wide at the base widening to 10 mm at its terminal. There is a 1 mm perforation 5 mm in from the terminal of the connecting strip. Both surfaces of the body of the seal are marked with numerous semi-parallel lines, spaced at about 13 per cm, which may possibly be the impressions of fabric in the soft lead surface. The…

A cast copper alloy stylus of probable Roman date. The stylus is 86 mm in length with a circular section shaft that is 5.2 mm in diameter and weighing 17.55 g. One end has been bevelled on both sides to produce an almost semi-circular, spatulate eraser edge 7.2 mm in width and 2 mm thick; the opposite end is tapered to a slightly rounded point that is 2 mm in diameter. Cast copper alloy plate from a Medieval folding strap clasp, rectangular in plan, 22.5 mm in length, 13.5 mm in width, 3 mm in thickness and weighing 3.2 g. A rim fragment from a cast copper alloy cauldron. The fragment is 75 mm in length, 35.5 mm in height and 3 mm thick, narrowing to 2.2 mm thick before widening at the rim; its weight is 46.95 g. The upper edge of the rim is internally bevelled with a triangular profile on the interior and flush with the upper edge of the vessel on the exterior.
