A complete English Post-Medieval copper-alloy farthing trade token, dating to AD 1648-1674. Williamson (1889: 581, no. 817).
Obverse: AT. THE. BIRD. IN. HAND = a hand holding a bird
Reverse: IN. CVRRIERS. ALLEY = I. A. W
Dimensions: diameter: 16.4mm; weight: 1.20g.
Copper alloy trade tokens were first struck in 1648. In 1656 half penny tokens were introduced. 1674 by Royal decree production of trade tokens ceased. Pers comm Verity Anthony.
