A complete cast lead-alloy weight of probable Post-Medieval date, c. 1500-1800. It is circular in plan, with a moulded design on its upper surface consisting a large raised pellet-in-ring motif. Preserved in fair condition with an even whitish patina, it measures 28.46mm in diameter, 5.79mm thick, and weighs 27.06g. Lead alloy weight, sub trapezoid in plan, with a large central recessed area on both faces that may have held a badge or trade emblem. The recessed area on one side is shield shaped 17mm by 31mm, while the recessed area on the other face appears more gouged, with an irregular surface. There is a piercing through the top of the object and also a transverse piercing below this, suggesting the object may have been modified. The object has an off white patina. It weighs 210.9g, is 54mm long, 23mm wide along the top, 40mm wide along the bottom and 12mm thick. The hole from front to back ha…

Medieval to post medieval fragment of a handle from a vessel, probably a cauldron, dating to the period c. AD 1100 - 1850. At one end the object is irregular in section and comprises a small part of the vessel wall from which the handle projects. The handle tapers along its length, terminating in a worn break. It exhibits four longitudinal casting seams. According to Butler, Green and Payne (2009), "From about AD 1100, cast copper alloy vessels...were commonly used for downhearth cooking, with the vessel sitting among the embers or suspended over the fire. All but the poorest medi…

An almost complete small fine ware vessel. Appearance seems to be a well-made vessel with a red slip coating on the outside with occasional inclusions of mica which is probably of Roman date. The rim of the object curves outwards and is chipped and worn in one place. Circumferential grooves from the wheel (wheel marks) are visible on the internal face of the vessel and on the vessel base which is uneven due to wear. The vessel is mid-orange in color and is in good condition. The rim, body and part of the base of the vessel is worn however overall there is not much wear.

An incomplete rim sherd of a wheel thrown ceramic vessel, dating from the Roman period likely from around the 2nd Century. The rim is curved in form and profile and has been water worn. The remains of a lug or handle just below the rim suggests it was belonging to a flanged dish or bowl. The object is well fired and has a bright orange fabric on each face and internally. The fragment is possibly Cheshire Plain wear fabric, which is quartz rich but is more micacous than is typical. The object is very weathered.

Copper alloy unidentified object. Cast object with a tapered rectangular section shank divided by an oval-ended plate at right angles to it. Above the plate [as illustrated] the shank is square and lightly waisted, as if to ensure a snug fit with a separate rebated or holed component. Below the cross-piece, the shank is narrower and more rounded, with a U-shaped end. The surface condition indicates an object of some age, while the characteristics rehearsed above may point to a mechanical - though not necessarily motorised - function. Suggested date: Post-Medieval, 1600-1850. Height…
