Record ID: LVPL-397DC7
Object type: AMPULLA
Broad period: MEDIEVAL
County: Cheshire West and Chester
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
An incomplete lead ampulla, the neck and both handles being missing, though the stump of one remains at the left of the severed neck. The surface of the object is covered in a layer of powdery lead corrosion. The front is moulded in a series of curvilinear rays giving the impression of a bivalve shell, possibly a scallop, which is often a symbol asssociated with connections to St James of Compostela. The reverse is scratched and pitted and any deliberate marking is obfuscated, but it is possible the back was plain. The design is similar to PUBLIC-B3E28A and NMGW-600111

Record ID: NLM-37EB89
Object type: SEAL
Broad period: POST MEDIEVAL
County: North Lincolnshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Lead bag seal. The mangled and partly melted relict of a bag seal, bearing traces of two or three lines of stamped text on one side. What remains appears as: [--]?N / [--]ROS[-] / [-]VI[-] - though this is emphatically an impression rather than a reading. Linear marks on the other side may be imprints from coarsely woven sacking. The size of characters and their arrangement may points to a customs seal from the Russian end of the Baltic trade, providing hemp and other agricultural commodities. Suggested date: Post-Medieval, 1812-1848. Diameter: 23.8mm, Thickness: 4.4mm, Weight: 11.56gms
