Record ID: DEV-28DEC1
Object type: SCRAPER (TOOL)
Broad period: BRONZE AGE
County: Devon
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A flint thumb-nail scraper of probable Early bronze age date, c. 2400-1600 BC. A tertiary flake of dark brown flint, mottled with grey inlusions. Sub-rectangular in plan, with a relativey pronounced bulb of percussion on the ventral face, but with the striking platform worked away at the proximal end. The ventral face is unworked, with the dorsal face exhibiting retouch around much of its perimeter, with the exception of the proximal end, which has been thinned by a series of crude, hinged removals. The retouch is semi-abrupt, sub-parallel and short.

Object type: ARROWHEAD
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Devon
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A flint projectile point, probably a very small leaf-shaped arrowhead, dating to c. 4000-3,300 BC. A tertiary flake of mottled pale grey flint, broadly piriform in plan and thickening in profile towards the base. Three removal scars survive on the dorsal face, the flake scar ridges meeting in the centre of the flake, and with the removals struck from at least two differenct platforms, one at c. 45 degrees to the other. Short, semi-abrupt, sub-parallel/scalar retouch is exhibited on both faces, around much of the perimeter of the ventral face, localised to the distal end on the dorsal.…

Object type: ARROWHEAD
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Devon
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
An incomplete retouched flint point, probably of Neolithic date and possibly an incomplete oblique arrowhead, dating to 3300-2400 BC. A triangular tertiary flake of slightly opaque brown flint, slightly clouded with areas of off-white patination. The point is worked bifacially and is missing its bottom edge to a natural break. The reouch on both faces is invasive, scalar/sub-parallel and low angle.
Dimensions: length 25.8mm; width 15.4mm; thickness 3.7mm; weight 1.45g.

A Late Neolithic flint oblique arrowhead, dating to 3300-2400 BC. A sub-triangular tertiary flake of mottled grey flint, with large areas of sand-coloured, cortex-like inclusions. The flake trapers to a point at one end, with one long, convex side and an obliquely angled base, but no distinct barb. The flake is worked bifacially, with invasive, scalar, low angle retouch at the point-end of the convex edge, right edge and base of one face and the left edge and base of the other, the convex edge exhibiting no retouch on this face.

A flint scraper of probable Late Neolithic to Early Bronze Age date, c. 3000-1600 BC. An incomplete tertiary flake of mottled grey flint, missing the proximal end and right edge of the dorsal face to natural breaks. There is the suggestion of a realtively pronounced bulb of percussion on the ventral face, and with a single flake-like removal scar exhibited on the dorsal. The left edge and surviving distal end of the dorsal face both exhibit continuous short, abrupt, sub-parallel retouch.
Dimensions: length 23.1mm; width 25.8mm; thickness 5.4mm; weight: 4.69g.
