Copper alloy thimble. Conical pressed metal thimble with a broad plain basal zone. The upper half of the wall is occupied by machine stamped circular pits which appear as if rising up the wall in diagonal rows from right to left. The top bears similar pits in a probably concentric arrangement, and is iron stained; there appears to have been a separate thicker lay on the top, now chipped. Suggested date: Post-Medieval, 1850-1900.

Late medieval to early post medieval copper alloy thimble dating to the period c. AD 1300 - 1550. It is formed of a single piece of copper alloy, cylindrical with a domed, closed top. The body is covered in a series of circular hand-punched pits with a plain band left around the mouth.
Similar thimbles have been dated to the later part of the medieval period (c. AD 1400-1550) by Edwin Holmes (Sewing Thimbles FRG Datasheet 9) and are commonly known as "beehive" thimbles. Egan (1998) illustrates a number of copper alloy thimbles dating from the 14thcentury onwards.

Copper alloy thimble. Cast conical thimble with unusual possibly moulded texture on its sides, including a possibly plaited motif with recurrent wave forms either interrupting it or emphasising elements of the scheme. There are three incised lines close to the base, , framing a plain zone above them, with a pair of incised lines as its upper border. A somewhat flattened top bears straight rows of circular pits within a circular border of similar pits. The basal edge is chipped. Suggested date: Post-Medieval, 1650-1750

Copper alloy thimble. Conical probably cast thimble with a foot ring, a plain basal zone limited by a double incised groove, with most of the wall above it occupied by closely spaced round machine stamped pits. These give out where an inward curve of the wall begins, with a further pair of circumferentially incised lines bordering the pitted surface with a plain zone above it. A separate domed top is inserted within the wall described above, and bears a rectilinear lattice of - unusually - smaller pits than appear on the wall. Suggested date: Post-Medieval, 1750-1850
