An incomplete cast copper-alloy fragment originating from a late Medieval to early Post-Medieval purse bar (c. 1450-1550) of Ward Perkins type A1. Only the central swivel-block survives, which is rectangular in plan and demonstrates a medium-sized circular perforation through its middle. On the sides of the block, the truncated remnants of the arms survive only slightly. A cast, lead alloy weight. of uncertain date. The weight is ball shaped with a flatter surface at the top and bottom. The weight has a piercec hole from the top to the bottom. The rest of the weight is solid with a whitish grey patina. Lead weights were used throughout a large span of time and were generally easy to manufacture; therefore, they are difficult to date outside of secure archaeological contexts. The weight measures 23.4mm in height, 27.3mm diameter and weighs 98 grams.
