An incomplete cast copper-alloy fragment originating from a late Medieval to early Post-Medieval purse bar (c. 1450-1550) of Ward Perkins type A1. Only the central swivel-block survives, which is rectangular in plan and demonstrates a medium-sized circular perforation through its middle. On the sides of the block, the truncated remnants of the arms survive only slightly. One face has been decorated with an incised saltire motif, while the other demonstrates a closely spaced pattern of hachured lines. A cast, lead alloy weight. of uncertain date. The weight is ball shaped with a flatter surface at the top and bottom. The weight has a piercec hole from the top to the bottom. The rest of the weight is solid with a whitish grey patina. Lead weights were used throughout a large span of time and were generally easy to manufacture; therefore, they are difficult to date outside of secure archaeological contexts. The weight measures 23.4mm in height, 27.3mm diameter and weighs 98 grams.
