Copper-alloy early medieval zoomorphic D-shaped single-looped buckle dating to c. 1000 - 1100 AD. The buckle has a bevelled inner edge and a rounded outer edge which bulges slightly at the apex. The strap bar is very narrow in the centre, widening towards both ends. The corners of the buckle are two stylized zoomorphic beasts which 'bite' the strap bar; these are formed from an enlarged section that is rectangular in plan and triangular in section, with incised ring and dot 'eyes' on each rectangular face. Description: Incomplete cast gilded silver pin, comprising the shield-shaped head with a small part of the shaft. The head is flat-sectioned with an irregular broken upper edge, and is engraved on one face with two probable back-to-back (addorsed) birds with wings crossed.
