An incomplete Roman copper alloy oval gilded plate brooch dating to c AD 200-350. The brooch is very worn and is missing the pin. The central 'gem' is complete but scratched. The brooch is oval with two incomplete gilded zones of decoration around a central black glass oval stone which is conical rising to a point in the centre. The outer zone of gilded decoration is decorated with chevrons. The inner zone of gilded decoration is decorated with a stamped diamond pattern.
